Meeting Recap

Hey Wahoos!

It was so great to see parents today at the meeting! In case you missed it, here’s a recap of the meeting.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Families must volunteer one shift per child. This can be at any meet (Mock Meet, Dual Meet, Prelims). If you have 3 kids, for example, you must work 3 shifts total throughout the season.
  • Sign ups for volunteering open before each meet. I will send an email out when they are open.
  • If your swimmer qualifies for finals, you must volunteer a finals meet shift

Volunteer Positions

  • Timer -each lane has 2 timers and will use stop watches to time each heat. The first heat requires two times. We may alternate timers for additional heats. 3 timers are required for Prelims and Finals.
  • Card writer -sits between the 2 timers and records the time(s) of each heat.
  • Ribbon writer -works one lane and determines a swimmer's place for that lane. They are responsible for writing the event and age group on the ribbon for each heat. Ribbons are optional for 13+.
  • Card runner -collects the time card from each lane and confirms information has been recorded.
  • Track heat/ event - sit on side of pool and flip sign to indicate heat and event.
  • Floater/ Back up Timer -may fill in where needed. If all positions are covered, you will be a back up timer and time each heat to cover for missed times in any lane.
  • Concessions - drink and snack sales.

Drink Donations

Each year we ask families to donate drinks for us to sell at concessions as a fundraiser. We ask for one case/12-pack per swimmer of either soda, water, 12 oz Gatorade, or sparkling water. You can drop them off on or under the white tables at the pool entrance. This is a one-time donation, not one for each meet, unless you can give more. We thank you for all your generosity!

Prelims and Finals

Prelims Day 1: 5/6 & 11+ June 24th at West U

Prelims Day 2: 7/8 & 9/10 June 25th at Bellaire

Finals: June 27th at Willow

Meet RSVP

RSVP for swim meets opens for all meets and will remain open for the remainder of the season. Please sign your swimmer up for each meet they will attend so that I can print accurate sign-in sheets and can create relays. I will send an email out when RSVPs open. They will sign up for their specific events (strokes) at practice.

Bracelet, Necklace, and Sign Sales!

One of our wonderful swimmers has created “Crafts 4 Coaches,” a business selling bracelets, necklaces, charms, and signs for swimmers. She will be taking orders via a QR code that I can send out to y’all. Her stand will be next to concessions at swim meets. If your swimmer would like to join the bracelet making and selling group, please reach out to me so I can put you in contact with her!

Calendar

I have attached a pdf of an end-of-May and through June calendar of events this season. It also includes the practice times for each age group.

We have practice every day, Monday through Friday. This includes Monday meet days. The only exception to this is Memorial Day because the pool is open for membership swim.

Some important notes:

  • The Bellaire dual meet is on a Saturday morning this year. This is new. We have not had a Saturday morning Dual Meet in recent memory, so please bring some patience! This is the anticipated schedule for that morning:

5-8 Meet:

Check in: 7:30 AM     Warm Up: 8:00 AM      Meet Starts: 8:30 AM

9-18 Meet:

Check in: 10:00 AM    Warm Up: 10:20 AM   Meet Starts: 10:30 AM

I encourage new and old parents to check out the Swimtopia website. There is a lot of information posted about meets, volunteering, and general swim team procedures and meet information. 9 times out of 10, the website can answer whatever questions you have. As always, you can email me or talk to me at practice!
